Fujairah International Airport is considered to be one of the most important pilllars of commercial activity in the Emirate. It is a major line of communication connecting Fujairah with the outside world. The airport started to function in 1987. It is supervised over by the Department of Civil Aviation. It is the fifth airport in the U.A.E. and the only one on the East Coast. This together with the seaport, creates a vital position for the re-export trade between the states of East Asia and Europe, as it is near to both, in addition to the similarity of both security and customs procedures to those of these countries. This is especially advantageous to the employees of both air and sea ports in their import and export dealings to and from the state.
